Homecoming King and Queen: Pianist Orli Shaham and conductor/composer David Robertson return for a two-concert weekend

Classical music's power couple—they met backstage at a St. Louis Symphony Orchestra concert in 1999—return to St. Louis for a two-concert weekend.

It was Homecoming Weekend Friday through Sunday (March 6 through 8, 2026) ) as former St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) Music Director David Robertson and celebrated pianist Orli Shaham (Robertson’s wife) paid a visit to Powell Hall for the first time since its renovation and expansion.

Friday and Saturday, Shaham and Robertson performed concerts of music by Steven Mackey, David Robertson, Sarah Kirkland Snider (Mackey’s wife), and Leonard Bernstein. Sunday afternoon Shaham and members of the SLSO presented a recital of works by Mozart, Schubert, and Avner Dorman.

Tuesday of that week, I sat down with Orli and David to talk about music past, present, and future in the new podcast studio backstage at Powell Hall in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Jack C. Taylor Music Center. A shorter version of this interview was aired on Classic 107.3 in St. Louis that same week.
