The Blue Strawberry presents Spry with singer Katie McGrath and guest vocalist Kay Love on Friday, July 18, at 7:30 pm. “SPRY is the newest offering from the award-winning, St. Louis favorite Katie McGrath, acknowledging her crossing over the line between “life as she knew it before” and “life as an old person now” represented by her recent 70th birthday. It’s rated PG-13 for language, not that she plans to do any cursing. We just never know what’s going to tumble from her lips. We do know she’ll share stories about the art, science and inconvenience of getting on in years along with songs from a breadth of genres including the Great American Songbook, Broadway, jazz and pop. 100% of McGrath’s proceeds will benefit Gratitude House whose mission is to reduce the rate of relapse by providing a safe, supportive, and beautiful home for sober women who are committed to 12-step recovery.” Larry Pry is the show’s music director show, which is directed by Lina Koutrakos The Blue Strawberry is at 364 N. Boyle. For more information: bluestrawberrystl.com
First Run Theatre Playwright’s Workshop presents a reading of Somewhere New by Loren Testa on Monday, July 14, at 6:30 pm. “All Trevor wanted to do was to go Somewhere New, somewhere, where he’d never been allowed to go before. All his little sister Liana wanted to do is go with him. Searching for somewhere a little less safe, a little more unknown, and maybe a little beyond belief, they discovered Karen, resigned to life in a wheelchair; too weak to go anywhere.” The reading takes place at Square One Brewery and Distillery in Lafayette Square. The Midnight Company presents the World Premiere production of Colin McLaughlin’s Pride And Joy through July 26. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays, July 13 and 20, at 3pm. “PRIDE AND JOY features the Moran family - Dad and Mom, and their young adult kids, Jay, Sam and Maggie. McLaughlin has termed this show an intervention play. They have gathered at Sam’s apartment for a family intervention - but no one is sure who this intervention is for. As they attempt to get to it, old memories, raw secrets and new revelations pour forth, hilariously and poignantly.” Performances take place at The Chapel, 6238 Alexander Drive.
