I like weddings. So, when I saw the advertisement for "At The Wedding " I knew I had had to see it.
At The Wedding was written by the award winning playwright, Bryna Turner. The play is performed by The West End Players Guild and directed by Anna Blair.
The play is about a young lady, Carlo, performed by Steph House. who shows up at the wedding anyway without sending her, RSVP. The play is set at the wedding reception space. During the reception Carlo experienced an emotional rollercoaster as she chatted with friends, family and her ex, Ava, played by Angela Healy. Carlo was encouraged to let go of her past romantic failures so that she can have future romantic success, however, romantic success is gained by taking "risks".
Anna Blair did an outstanding job in this production. She wore three hats( director/ set designer/sound designer). The playlist was the ultimate for dancing featuring the music of The Beatles, James Taylor, and Beyonce, just to name a few. The costumes were what one would expect guests to wear at a fancy wedding. The brides gown was adorned with lovely bouquets of appliqued flowers . The set created the look of a wedding reception venue complete with a bar, buffet table, and a gift table loaded with gifts. The set was completed by Matt Anderson as the frustrated waiter, Victor, who had few lines, nevertheless, I felt has pain by his many gestures.
I liked At The Wedding. It's a cautionary tale for those planning on attending their ex's wedding. Oh, if you decide to go don't forget to---RSVP. Performances run through April 13th; check the West End Players web site for more information.
